Brush and paper
Watercolour

Impressionism
This work was done when I was in Manchester and probably in the final year. It was gifted to one of my relatives on my return to Iran in 1984. In 2023, I managed to trace it and got a picture of it.
1. Medium: Watercolor on paper
2. Shapes and objects: A rural scene featuring a group of farm buildings. There's a large tree on the left side of the composition. A road or path leads towards the buildings. Mountains or hills are visible in the background. The sky takes up a significant portion of the painting, with subtle cloud formations.
3. Colours: Soft, muted palette. Light blue for the sky, transitioning to pale yellow and beige near the horizon. The buildings are painted in white and light grey with touches of yellow. The tree is rendered in brown and green. The road is a light tan color. The background hills are painted in soft purple and brown tones.
4. Narrative: This painting captures a quiet moment in a rural landscape, likely during early morning or late afternoon given the soft light. The composition leads the viewer's eye along the road towards the farm buildings, creating a sense of invitation or homecoming. The large tree provides a natural frame and adds a sense of established permanence to the scene. The overall atmosphere is one of tranquility and timelessness, evoking the enduring nature of rural life and the changing seasons.
5. Original Artist: While this is an original work by Mehrdad Fahimi, the style and subject matter are reminiscent of the rural landscapes painted by American artist Andrew Wyeth. Wyeth was known for his realistic depictions of rural scenes, often imbued with a sense of isolation and quiet beauty.
However, Fahimi's use of watercolor and the softer, more atmospheric quality also brings to mind some of the landscape works of British artist J.M.W. Turner, particularly in the treatment of light and sky.
A comparable work might be Wyeth's "Christina's World" (1948), though Fahimi's painting has its own unique elements and a more optimistic, serene feel. Wyeth's works can be found in major museums across the United States, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
This painting continues the tradition of finding beauty and meaning in everyday rural scenes, capturing the essence of a place through careful observation and sensitive use of the watercolor medium.
