Brief Description

This work is based on a story Ziba told. I was and still hoping to add a chapter to OUR STORIES book, but seems that I do not have the time.

1. Medium: Digital painting (created using Adobe Fresco and Tablet)

2. Shapes and objects: Child figure, bottles (milk and water), vase or bottle, cooking pots, plate, window, door or cabinet, beam of light

3. Colours: Brown/beige background, teal shirt on child figure, blue and pink bottles, golden vase/bottle, gray cooking pots, white beam of light

4. Narrative: This digital artwork presents a poignant scene that juxtaposes innocence with a sense of isolation or hardship. A child figure sits cross-legged on the floor, bathed in a stark beam of light that contrasts sharply with the surrounding darkness. The setting appears to be a sparse, possibly impoverished interior. Everyday objects like bottles and cooking pots are scattered around, suggesting a makeshift living space. The shadowy outlines of a window and what might be a door or cabinet loom in the background, adding to the atmosphere of confinement or limitation. The child's posture and the surrounding emptiness evoke a feeling of loneliness or contemplation. This piece explores themes of childhood resilience, social inequality, and the contrast between light and darkness both literally and metaphorically.

5. Original Artist: While this is an original work by Mehrdad Fahimi, the style and subject matter are reminiscent of the works of Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, particularly in its use of stark contrasts and emotional atmosphere. Munch was known for his expressive use of color and form to convey psychological states. However, Fahimi's use of digital medium and the more contemporary setting give this piece its unique character. Munch's works can be found in major museums worldwide, including the Munch Museum in Oslo and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
