Brief Description

This was done from a calendar of watercolours. I always thought the original was by Rowland Hilder but cannot find this among his works as much as google shows.

1. Medium: Watercolor on paper

2. Shapes and objects: A rural landscape with a dirt road leading to a cluster of buildings in the distance. There's a large tree on the left side of the composition. The buildings include what appears to be a round or conical structure, possibly a silo or traditional hut. The sky is dominated by dramatic, stormy clouds.

3. Colours: The painting uses a limited, earthy palette. Browns and beiges dominate the foreground and buildings. The sky is painted in various shades of grey and beige, creating a moody atmosphere. There are touches of white for highlights and to suggest snow or light on the buildings.

4. Narrative: This painting captures a stark, possibly winter scene in a rural setting. The dramatic sky and bare tree create a sense of isolation and perhaps foreboding. The road leading to the distant buildings invites the viewer into the scene, suggesting a journey or return to shelter. The overall mood is one of solitude and the harsh beauty of rural landscapes in challenging weather conditions.

5. Original Artist: While this is an original work by Mehrdad Fahimi, the style and subject matter are reminiscent of the rural landscapes painted by American artist Andrew Wyeth. Wyeth was known for his realistic depictions of rural scenes, often imbued with a sense of isolation and quiet drama.

However, Fahimi's looser, more fluid watercolor technique also brings to mind some of the landscape works of British artist J.M.W. Turner, particularly in the treatment of the dramatic sky.

This painting continues the tradition of finding beauty and emotional resonance in simple rural scenes. It showcases Fahimi's skill in using watercolor to create atmosphere and mood, effectively conveying the stark beauty and sometimes harsh reality of rural life.
