This is from a watercolour in a calendar. The original probably belongs to Roland Hilder. I also have a picture of my work before framing which I am adding as well.
1. Medium: Watercolor on paper
2. Shapes and objects:
- A cluster of farm buildings in the middle distance, including:
- Several houses with dark roofs
- A larger barn-like structure
- Possible outbuildings or sheds
- Snow-covered fields in the foreground, with visible contours and undulations
- Several bare trees surrounding the farm buildings
- A winding path or road leading towards the buildings, partially visible under the snow
- Distant trees or hedgerows on the horizon
- A large, dramatic sky dominating the upper two-thirds of the painting
- Subtle fence lines or field boundaries visible in the snow
3. Colours:
- Sky: Warm golden tones transitioning to cooler greys at the top
- Snow: Predominantly white with subtle pink and blue shadows
- Buildings: Dark brown or black roofs, warm yellow-orange walls
- Trees: Dark brown branches against the sky
- Distant landscape: Muted browns and greys
- Overall palette: Warm golden tones contrasting with cool whites and greys
4. Narrative: This painting captures a winter scene in a rural setting, likely during sunset or sunrise given the warm golden light in the sky. The snow-covered landscape creates a sense of stillness and quiet, while the farm buildings suggest human presence and shelter amidst the cold. The dramatic sky dominates the composition, creating a sense of vastness and emphasizing the relatively small scale of human habitation in the natural world. The warm light on the snow and buildings contrasts beautifully with the cooler shadows, evoking a feeling of warmth and hope in a winter landscape.
5. Original Artist: While this is an original work by Mehrdad Fahimi, the style and subject matter are reminiscent of the winter landscapes painted by Dutch and Flemish masters, particularly Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The high horizon line and the attention to the sky's dramatic light effects also bring to mind some works by J.M.W. Turner. However, Fahimi's use of watercolor and the more contemporary, simplified rendering of forms give this painting its own unique character. The work demonstrates Fahimi's skill in capturing light and atmosphere, as well as his ability to convey the essence of a winter landscape with economical yet evocative brushstrokes.
