Brief Description

I only have a picture of this work with me. I think the original was given to my uncle (Dr. Mostafa). So not sure where it is now. The main work was from a watercolour artist which I cannot recall details of.I always loved the super warm colours of this work

1. Medium: Watercolor on paper

2. Shapes and objects: A rural village scene featuring several buildings, including a prominent church tower. There's a large tree on the left side, various houses and farm buildings, and a road leading through the village. Three small figures are visible walking on the road.

3. Colours: Warm earth tones dominate. The buildings are painted in shades of pink, purple, and beige. The roofs are a vibrant orange-red. The tree is rendered in deep brown. The sky is a light grey, suggesting an overcast day.

4. Narrative: This painting captures the essence of a quaint English village. The church tower serves as a focal point, symbolizing the central role of religion in rural community life. The large tree adds a sense of permanence and natural beauty. The small figures on the road bring a human element to the scene, suggesting daily village life continuing as it has for generations. The warm colors and soft light evoke a feeling of nostalgia and timelessness.

5. Original Artist: While this is an original work by Mehrdad Fahimi, the style and subject matter are reminiscent of the village scenes painted by English artist Stanley Spencer. Spencer was known for his detailed depictions of his home village of Cookham, often imbuing everyday scenes with a sense of the spiritual.

However, Fahimi's looser, more fluid watercolor technique also brings to mind some of the landscape works of John Sell Cotman, an English painter known for his watercolor landscapes.

This painting continues the tradition of English landscape painting, capturing the charm and character of rural village life. It showcases Fahimi's skill in using watercolor to create a warm, inviting atmosphere while accurately depicting architectural details and natural elements.
