Brief Description

This was done from a sketch I made while standing in front of the building. Had to go back a few times doe the details. The work was given to one of my relatives as I arrived back in Iran in 1984 and cannot recall who. I have used the only picture that I have for this collection.

1. Medium: Watercolor on paper

2. Shapes and objects: A modern urban scene featuring a tall skyscraper or office building as the focal point. The building has a distinctive geometric pattern of windows and balconies. In the foreground, there's a low-rise structure, possibly a shopping center or public building. Trees or foliage are visible on the right side. A small figure of a person can be seen walking on the street.

3. Colours: The entire image is rendered in shades of pink and beige, creating a monochromatic effect. The sky is a light beige, while the buildings and street are in various shades of pink. Darker pink is used for shadows and details.

4. Narrative: This painting captures a moment in a modern cityscape, likely during sunset or sunrise given the warm, pinkish hues. The contrast between the tall, sleek skyscraper and the lower buildings in the foreground highlights the mix of architectural styles in urban environments. The lone figure adds a human element to the scene, emphasizing the scale of the buildings. The overall atmosphere is dreamlike and surreal due to the monochromatic color scheme.

5. Original Artist: While this is an original work by Mehrdad Fahimi, the style and subject matter are reminiscent of the architectural paintings of American artist Edward Hopper, known for his depictions of urban scenes. However, Fahimi's use of a monochromatic color scheme and more abstract rendering of the buildings also brings to mind some of the cityscapes of British artist L.S. Lowry, albeit with a more modern architectural focus.

This painting continues the tradition of urban landscape art, capturing the essence of modern city life through a unique and stylized lens. It showcases Fahimi's ability to create mood and atmosphere through limited color palette and architectural forms.
