Evening and sunset time at the cottage is sometimes breath taking
1. Medium: Watercolor on paper
2. Shapes and objects: A dramatic landscape featuring a vibrant sunset or sunrise sky over a silhouetted forest. The foreground shows a reflective body of water, likely a lake or pond. The trees are painted as dark shapes against the bright sky, with one prominent tree slightly taller than the others on the right side.
3. Colours: The sky is painted in bold, warm tones - primarily reds and oranges, with touches of yellow. The forest and its reflection are depicted in dark greens and blacks, creating a strong silhouette effect. The water in the foreground is painted in muted greens and browns, reflecting the sky's colors.
4. Narrative: This painting captures a moment of intense natural beauty, likely at sunset or sunrise. The dramatic contrast between the fiery sky and the dark forest creates a powerful visual impact. The reflection in the water adds depth and symmetry to the composition. There's a sense of stillness and awe, as if the viewer is witnessing a fleeting moment of extraordinary color and light in nature. The painting evokes feelings of wonder and the sublime beauty of the natural world.
5. Original Artist: While this is an original work by Mehrdad Fahimi, the style and subject matter are reminiscent of the landscapes painted by J.M.W. Turner, particularly his later works that focused on light and atmosphere. Turner was known for his expressive use of color and his ability to capture dramatic lighting effects.
However, the simplified forms and strong contrast also bring to mind some of the works of contemporary Canadian artist Lawren Harris, a member of the Group of Seven, known for his stylized landscapes.
A comparable work might be Turner's "The Fighting Temeraire" (1839), though Fahimi's painting has its own unique elements and a more contemporary feel. Turner's works can be found in major museums worldwide, including the Tate Britain in London.
While Fahimi's painting is clearly his own, it seems to blend influences from both Romantic landscape traditions and more modern, simplified approaches to landscape painting. The result is a striking image that captures the drama and beauty of a natural spectacle.
